Scania Australia has used the International Mining and Resources Conference in Melbourne to show off the new XT range of construction and mining trucks.

The new-generation truck was launched overseas a little over a year ago and is being billed by the Swedish manufacturer as being “the World’s Safest Construction and Mining Truck”.

Can they back that up? It looks like it.

The Scania XT range in Australia will come as standard with potentially life-saving side curtain rollover airbags for driver and passenger (as also found in the road-focused offerings).

Scania proudly taking bragging rights as the first heavy-duty truck manufacturer to offer the tech.

While the new-gen Scania construction/mining range is equipped with an array of different additions over the on-road focused Scania range including:

  • Protruding steel front bumper
  • Headlamp protection grilles
  • Front under-bumper skid-plate
  • 40-tonne towing point (centre of the bumper)
  • Robust door mirror housings

The Scania XT also rides higher than a standard Scania and boasts all-steel parabolic leaf spring suspension.
