Euro 6 Iveco Stralis brings home the bacon

Big fuel consumption improvement in real world conditions

Back in June we told you about some trials getting underway involving new Euro 6 compliant engines in the popular Iveco Stralis.

Now we can report that the trials are proving a success.

In the face of rising fuel costs in Australia in recent times, CEVA Logistics sub-contractor Mark Schipper, says the Euro 6 Iveco Stralis that he’s been operating shows significant fuel efficiency gains in real-world conditions.

“Fuel consumption in the new model is noticeably lower and fuelling costs are several hundred dollars lower per month than with the previous model.”

Under the bonnet of the Euro 6 Stralis is an 11 litre Iveco Cursor engine that delivers 460hp and 2150Nm.

Helping boost the engines environmental credentials (and reduce fuel consumption) is an Electronically-managed Variable Geometry Turbocharger (EVGT) and Iveco’s ‘HI-SCR’ after-treatment system (as found in Iveco Eurocargo).

Mark is no stranger to the Stralis, he’s had three, including a Euro 5 version.

But he says the new one, which has already clocked up 240,000 kilometres hauling single trailers across the eastern states, is the best yet.

“The new Stralis is quiet, there’s barely any engine noise, it’s comfortable and as easy to drive as a car,”

“Combined with the AMT, it’s a great mix – why would you want to change gears if you don’t have to.

“I can be in this truck for as long as 14 hours a day, yet when I get out at the end of the day I still feel fresh.

“I really like the Iveco Stralis range, and this is easily the best one I’ve owned – the Stralis has really come of age.”

We will keep you updated as more details on the trials comes to hand.
