New boss for Volvo Group Australia

Peter Voorhoeve to shift to North America

There’s a change at the top for the Volvo Group Australia (VGA) team with Peter Voorhoeve confirming he’s off to run Volvo Trucks North America.

In his place will be Martin Merrick, a Volvo veteran of more than 30 years (pictured above).

The change over will take place in early September and comes after a successful five-year stint as the boss of Volvo, Mack and UD in Australia for Voorhoeve.

Heléne Mellquist, Senior Vice President Volvo Trucks International, paying tribute to the outgoing President.

“Peter has been unrelenting in his commitment to ‘service, service, service’, and his absolute customer-focused approach has been crucial to the Group’s success in Australia and New Zealand.

“His appointment to lead Volvo Trucks North America is a demonstration of our confidence in his ability to understand and develop a market, and we wholeheartedly thank him for the hard work and great results that he has achieved over the past five years.”

Martin Merrick’s most recent assignment in the Volvo family has been as Senior Vice President Retail Development at Volvo Trucks in Sweden.

He’s previously been the boss of Volvo Truck and Bus in Scotland.

He says he can’t wait to get here and get to work.

“Like many colleagues at Volvo, I have kept a close eye on what has been happening in Australia and New Zealand as they continue to be lead markets for us in areas such as R&D, particularly in developing products to suit the quite unique needs of local customers,”

“Without a doubt the key to Volvo Group Australia’s success has been its drive to work in close partnership with its customers, and I look forward to continuing to build on the Group’s achievements with the support of a great local team around me.”
