TIC welcomes record April sales result

Truck industry on track for best-ever year

It would be a great time to own a truck dealership with the industry on track for a record sales year.

And the big infrastructure spend announced in the 2018-19 Budget should help continue the boom for some time to come.

As reported, total sales of trucks and heavy vans in April amounted to 3,151 vehicles – a hefty 25.2% increase on the same month last year.

The result was the best April on record and the highest number of sales in that month since 2008.

Truck Industry Council (TIC) CEO Tony McMullan says the year is looking memorable for the industry.

“It is encouraging to see another good result in April to follow the solid first quarter figures.

“We are currently sitting on record sales growth and that is a strong position to be in as we head towards the end of the financial year.”

While TIC President Phil Taylor said he was particularly pleased to see the heavy-duty end of the market doing so well.

“It just seems to be getting better! A great set of numbers, a new record for April sales and very pleasing to see the Heavy-Duty segment leading the sales boom.”
