Updated information published by the ACCC this afternoon shows more than 2100 MY 2013 Hino 300 Series trucks will require an airbag replacement.
Hino hasn’t escaped the global Takata Airbag Recalls and published an initial list of 300 Series trucks affected by the action last year.
Affecting only the passenger airbag in this case, the recall notice once again covers the well-publicised inflator issues.
As it gets older, a combination of high temperatures and humidity can cause the airbag inflator propellant to degrade.
If an affected vehicle is involved in a collision triggering the airbag, the metal inflator housing may explode/rupture under too much internal pressure.
What are the hazards?
This may cause the inflator to rupture if the airbag is activated. This may cause injury to the vehicle occupants.
Owners of affected vehicles should contact their local Hino dealership or Hino head office directly via the Hino website to arrange for a replacement airbag inflator free of charge.
Further details are also available from Hino on 1300 01 HINO (1300 014 466) or from Hino dealers.
