Penske Power Systems has let us know that it has delivered its first Western Star 5800 to a key client in Sydney.
The branch was appointed as a dealer for Penske Commercial Vehicles late last year and has already delivered a number of MAN trucks to clients.
But it’s the handing over of the Detroit-diesel powered 5800 to NSW Freightlines that was worth a mention for the famous ‘W’ brand.
Set to be put to work hauling B-doubles up and down the east coast, the 5800 joins a fleet of Western Star 4800 prime-movers in the NSW Freightlines line-up.
Why choose the 5800 this time around?
Michael Vella, owner of NSW Freightlines, tells us the sloped bonnet and set-back front axle were big selling points.
“The 5800 has great visibility, ride comfort, turning circle and weight distribution.
“And with Western Star and Detroit I know I can count on Penske’s wide network to service our equipment quickly, and with great results.”

The truck was named ‘Princess Katelyn’ by Vella’s two-year-old daughter and will commence into service immediately.
