What’s been described as a ‘perfect storm’ in the U.S. is creating big opportunities for logistics businesses that can “think outside the box”.
That’s the opinion of Mid America Logistics President and CFO, Mark Kummer.
The business, one of the fastest growing technology-enabled logistics and trucking companies in North America has just announced a further expansion with a fifth Operations Centre opening in Arizona.
And Mid America is expecting to see record revenues with shipping volumes already up 65% on the same period last year.
Helping to meet the extra demand for its services Mid America has tripled its truck fleet over the past 12 months.
The growth is being driven by capacity constraints caused by factors including abnormally extreme weather, the implementation of Electronic Driver Logs, as well as the increasingly robust U.S. economy.
Mr Kummer says this is a great time to be in the industry, especially if you can offer innovative solutions to customers freight needs.
“Mid America is employing new procurement and sourcing methodologies to secure capacity that offer price stability in a volatile market.”
Setting the business apart from rivals are high-tech solutions, many of them developed in-house, including automation of risk management and compliance, and automated real-time freight tracking (as seen below).
They say these systems help reduces the chance of failure at every point and this in turn makes for a seamless, high-quality, and easy experience for customers.
