Here it is, the new-generation of the enormously successful Scania P-series.
Scania has revealed the new P-series cab in rigid distribution truck guise.
The new-generation truck will again be offered in a range of variants, from low entry to sleeper cab, and remains focused on being an ideal platform for vocational vehicles, such as fire trucks.
Anders Lampinen is the Product Director of Construction trucks at Scania, he says the new P-series has been designed to be extremely versatile.
“While there isn’t evenly weighted demand for all the versions, for us at Scania it’s a matter of credibility to be able to offer the right variant for applications and requirements that are not so common, as well,”
With the cab unveiling comes confirmation from Scania that the new P-series will also boast the revised and updated five-cylinder engine.
The 9.0 litre powerplant is Euro 6 compliant and will be offered in 280hp/1400Nm, 320hp/1600Nm and 360hp/1700Nm outputs.
Scania telling us they’ve managed to boast fuel efficiency by about 3% over the previous iteration and this mostly due to software tweaks and a reconfigured combustion chamber.
There’s also thermostatically-controlled oil cooling.
The P-series will also be available with an array of 13.0 litre six-cylinder engines.
“These are energy-efficient, robust and highly reliable engines, which deliver the power in many construction and distribution vehicles day-after-day.” Mr Lampinen said.
We can expect to see the new Scania P-series in Australia at some point in the future, at this stage though there is no official confirmation on when it will be launched locally.
