Steering gear recall for Western Star tandem steer trucks

Owners of Western Star 4700 8×4 Tandem Steer Trucks are being contacted with information regarding a recall of their vehicles.

The recall is being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

The ACCC recall notice advising that the bracket attaching the secondary steering gear to the chassis may fracture if the bolt tension is not regularly checked.

What are the hazards?

If the bracket attaching the secondary steering gear to the chassis fractures there may be a loss of control of the vehicle, potentially causing an accident.

Affected Western Star owners are being contacted directly by Western Star Trucks distributor, Penske Commercial Vehicles, by mail/email.

Owners should contact their nearest Western Star dealership to arrange an inspection and repair of the vehicle.
