Maxion Wheels has shown off a new range of steel truck wheels which they say will help shed up to 40kg of overall weight from each vehicle they are fitted to.
Being aimed at truck manufacturers looking at ways of reducing weight and improving fuel economy to meet tough new emissions laws, especially in Europe, Maxion has used the IAA Commercial Vehicle Trade Fair to debut the new wheels.
The company tell us the Gen34 22.5″ x 9.0″ steel wheel weighs just 34 kilograms and that makes them the lightest steel wheel available to truck OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers).
“We know a key concern of our OEM customers is the reduction of C02 emissions,” said Pieter Klinkers, Chief Executive Officer, Maxion Wheels.
“Reducing vehicle weight is a key strategy because lighter trucks mean less fuel, and that equates to fewer emissions.
“Through sophisticated design and use of global manufacturing techniques, more than five kilograms of steel were eliminated over the last few years, without sacrificing either product reliability or durability.”
The new light-weight steel truck wheels go into production next year.
