Big hybrid bus order placed in China

Chinese leading the way on hybrids

The pollution issues in some of China’s largest cities are forcing authorities to look for cleaner public transport options – particularly buses.

Now a major supply contract for a fleet of hybrid buses has been placed by Liuzhou Bus – operators of the Liuzhou public transportation system.

Liuzhou has a population of around 3.8 million people across four urban districts.

The buses will be delivered to the operator by Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Company Limited (GYMCL), a leading manufacturer and distributor of engines for on and off-road applications in China.

All will be powered by YC6J200-50 hybrid engines.

The YC6J200-50 is a compact, lightweight, 4-stroke, 6-cylinder diesel-electric hybrid engine rated at 147kW at 2500 rpm.

Weng Ming Hoh, President of China Yuchai (GYCML), welcomed the order.

“We have become the preferred supplier of engines to Liuzhou Bus and the dominant supplier of hybrid engines in the Chinese market.

“We continue to introduce environmentally-friendly and advanced hybrid engines to meet the government’s increasingly stringent emission standards.”
